Sailfishing 2: now with Re-enforcements - Boat 1 This weekend two boats departed for Rompin in search of more of what we had discovered a couple of weeks ago: excellent sailfishing! Some of the usual suspects were aboard: Joshua, Ronnie, Big Dave, Chris and Myself - with a few new faces on both boats. We departed around 1pm on friday and as per usual, we encountered no traffic problems crossing at Woodlands, but we did run into the same torrential rain storm as before when crossing the southern peninsula. It made things slow going, but good company sees you through and the rain had stopped by the time we reached the resort. A little about RBR (the resort) - Its not bad, rooms were clean and mosquito free. Aircon was very loud and TV didn't work so well, but we were there to fish anyway, so no big deal. Similar quality to Lanjut, but with a better pool and no golf courses. Since most of you probably came to look at pictures and not read my ramblings, here you go: We started the day catching mud crabs and turning them into home nipple piercing kits: ![]() but were soon on our way... Bait was tough to find all weekend, especially since the majority of it got mangled/eaten by Sailfish or Tenggiri before it made it to the surface. My first sailfish hookup of the day was when a sail wrapped its bill around my sabiki. Imagine trying to stop a sailfish on 6 pound mono...yeah, not gonna happen. Eventually we got a few baits and it wasn't long before we were hooked up. ![]() and boatside ![]() We landed about 9 the first day, with about 30 hooked up...a pretty miserable average. The other boat whooped our ass, as they landed nearly double that! Having brought my mask and fins, I decided to do some pics of Sails coming in from in the water. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is what a Sailfish looks like when its about to jump: ![]() and coming in: ![]() Swimming with them was a great experience, and was especially gratifying to see that they were swimming strong upon release. I'll have more pics and videos to add as they become uploaded.
Finally the Videos are up And here they are: A successful release after Stephen removes both his and Steve's hooks from one greedy Sailfish ![]() Big Dave lands and releases one sail while Steve dances with one at the back of the boat. ![]() This could be an instructional on how to follow a fish under the boat. ![]() We regained our pride the second day, landing 20 or so and jumping off a bunch more Written by: Ryan |
